When might a fusebox upgrade be appropriate?
Age alone is not a reason to replace a fusebox. The decision depends on the condition of the installation, existing protective devices, test results and any planned alterations.
Modern circuit protection
Depending on the installation, a replacement consumer unit can provide individual RCBO protection, suitable overcurrent protection and surge protection where appropriate.
We discuss the proposed arrangement, available space for future circuits and suitable equipment before work begins.

Replacing the board does not repair defective wiring. Existing circuits, earthing and bonding must be assessed and appropriately tested; any defects that affect safety are explained before proceeding.

How a consumer unit replacement works
Isolate and install
The electrical supply is switched off safely while the consumer unit is replaced and circuits are connected and labelled.
Test and certify
We complete the required inspection and testing, provide the appropriate electrical certificate and arrange applicable Building Regulations notification.

Fusebox replacement FAQs
Does an old fusebox automatically need replacing?
No. Its condition, protective devices, testing results and any proposed changes matter more than age alone.
Will the electricity need to be switched off?
Yes. The supply must be safely isolated for the replacement and subsequent testing. We discuss the expected interruption beforehand.
What is the advantage of RCBOs?
RCBOs provide residual-current and overcurrent protection for individual circuits, which can reduce the number of circuits affected by a single fault.
Will the existing circuits be tested?
Yes. Appropriate inspection and testing are required. A new consumer unit cannot make defective existing wiring safe by itself.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. We provide the appropriate electrical installation certification and arrange applicable Building Regulations notification.
